WP7 update in the wings almost ready to fly

When the news of the new WP7 operating system was first announced it was surely a glorious day for Microsoft’s mobile team. Unfortunately however, its lack of basic functionality (copy and paste) did doubt some skeptics. Since that dubious day Microsoft has promised an update to address the simple copy and paste issue as well as some others. Well it seems that the basic outline of this update has hit the interwebs and Microsoft should be updating devices soon. The last time I checked this update would have been made available sometime in January, looking at my trusty calendar it is surely February so this update should be coming very soon. But let’s take a quick gander at what to expect.

The Microsoft update is said to be packed with some pretty excellent stuff that the end users will surely be grateful for. Firstly and most importantly to any smart phone user this side of the 21st century is a copy and paste function. Go one day using your computer without it I dare ya! Microsoft says this about their copy and paste functionality:

“Using copy and paste is easy and intuitive. In many cases you just tap a word, slide your finger to highlight any additional text, then tap the Copy icon. To insert this text in a message or app, just tap the spot where it should go, then tap the Paste icon”

Sounds familiar right? Only with WP7 devices you’re using your thumbs and not a mouse. So rejoice WP7 users simple functionality is on its way to your handheld. But that’s not all you should be excited about as there are a few more updates in store. Microsofts update to WP7 will also make your Apps and games run just that much faster as the company says we’ve whittled down the time it takes for apps and games to start up and resume”. Checking reviews on the WP7 devices this does indeed sound like a needed improvement addressed. But what elese you ask? Well there is an update to the WP7 marketplace. Microsoft has made improvements to their new market place by allowing a more refined search to find apps, games and or music. If you enter the apps or games section and tap the search field you will only see apps or games. Same goes for the music section. Amazing I know and just in case you’re a WP7 user and wondering how you will know when this update is available, well your phone will shoot you a “pop-up message” to inform you that an update is available OTA style. Oh and you can disable this function.

Any WP7 users out their looking forward to any of this? I know that copying and pasting has to be something your looking for. How about faster apps and games? Tell us what you think in the comments below!
