Virgin Mobile Launches the Waterproof ZTE Reef
The water proof ZTE Reef washes to the shores of Virgin Mobile. As our love for mobile gadgets grows we begin to find ourselves with nicer and nicer hardware that is very fragile. While no one is quite sure where it all started, smart phone manufacturers are doing what they can to help us keep our devices in one piece and dry! Recently a crop of water proof and ‘rugged’ devices have been surfacing to the market. Most recently the Galaxy S4 Active, the At&t bound NEC Terrain and the Kyocera Torque have brought a new lease on smart phone life and now Virgin Mobile and ZTE are bringing their own water proof Android into he fold. Let’s take a gander at the ZTE Reef shall we.
The new Virgin Mobile Reef contrary to its name seemingly popped up out of nowhere. The new smart phone is like many Virgin devices an entry level handheld that is offered up to anyone free of contract for about $150. The first dominating feature surrounding the Reef is that the device is IPX7 certified, which is a special way of saying the Reef is waterproof. The Reef can be submerged in up to 1 meter of water for approximately 30 minutes. The handset starts with a 4 inch touch screen display that offers up density of 233 pixels per inch and is built into an 11 mm casing. Running the likes of Android version 4.1, the Reef sports a more than capable 1 GHz processor, 4 GB of ROM, 1 GB of RAM, unnamed GPU and expandable micro SD memory up to 32 GB. Around back the Reef houses a 5 mega pixel camera with 720p video recording capabilities and up front a 1 mega pixel shooter is available for all those self portraits. Rounding out the Reef’s connectivity is GPS, Bluetooth 4.0, Wi-Fi and micro USB.
