Rumors Say Verizon Getting the iPhone 5
Ah those iPhone rumors keep heating up and Dvice says that they have an unnamed source who has played with a coming version of the iPhone for Verizon’s network. Guess what? They claim it’s not the same as AT&T’s iPhone 4.
The source claims that this will be a different model of iPhone than was released on AT&T this year, and have quite a few improvements that clearly differentiate it from the older model. How much? Think faster processor, bigger screen, and an internal antenna (apparently Verizon insisted). This certainly is amazing news—if it’s true.
While it is generally accepted that Apple has ordered millions of CDMA chips recently—the same technology as Verizon uses—other countries also use this technology. For all anyone knows, this could be a model for China. I certainly hope these are for this rumored new iPhone. What would it be named? The iPhone 5? Since it’s not expected have Long Term Evolution (LTE or 4G) technology, ‘iPhone 4G’ would probably be a misleading name which Apple would want to avoid.
But wait! What about Apple’s exclusivity contract with AT&T? That’s not supposed to expire until 2012? Sure, if you believe what the two companies say. Apple might have an escape hatch or two in there.
These Verizon iPhone rumors have been circulating since the first iPhone came out in 2007. Each year, we are supposed to get one but never do. Before I pin my hopes on this, I want to see something more official like perhaps a prototype of the Verizon iPhone. Since Apple is so secretive, I guess we might have to wait until someone loses another prototype.
Is this the real deal? Apple finally going to let us use its phone on the largest network in the country? I certainly hope so. It would be about time. We’ve been salivating for it since the first one was released. Besides, many of us are opting for Android handsets since Verizon carries such a good selection. The iPhone needs to come to Verizon if Apple wants to keep moving units like it has. Would you trade in your Android for a bigger, fast iPhone if it hits Verizon? Would you switch from your BlackBerry? Let me know what you think.

I have a Blackberry Storm, one of the worst smartphones ever made. If Verizon gets a iPhone, its bye bye Blackberry. If they don’t, then hello Droid. Either way I can’t wait to get rid of my Blackberry. It was my first and last Blackberry. (I’ve gone through 3 replacement phones because of various defects, all in less that a year.)

If verizin were to get the i5 (that’s what people around me call it) I would definitely switch from my blackberry bold to the i5. BB is ok but I’m ready to upgrade to something better and faster

With ATT service so bad and the iPhone so good Verizon will benifit from many new customers when the new iPhone is launched. BTW: pls hurry, my contract w/ ATT is almost up!

I have the original Droid. Rooted and everything so it does an amazing amount of things that the iPhone will never be able to do because apple keeps a hard foot down on letting people make their software better. But having said that I would change to iPhone on a flash if it came to Verizon. I had a iPhone about 8 months ago and the only reason I jumped back to Verizon was.because of service. So this would cure all my problems. Besides I run my own business and there are so many apps that van assist me on the iPhone. There’s my 2 cents.

@Aldo g,
If you jump to AT&T you won’t be with them very long. After you experience their very poor customer service and unreliable cell coverage you will be begging Verizon to take you back and will gladly pay the early termination fee with AT&T to return to Verizon.
