Verizon Employees Prepping for HP webOS 2.0 and UK Getting it December 6th
Fans of Palm can rejoice—Verizon Wireless is preparing its employees for the launch of HP webOS 2.0. Not only that, PreCentral has received a tip that webOS 2 will be hitting the UK as an update for the Palm Pre and Pixi series on carrier O2 UK on December 6th. Oh, and pre-orders for unlocked Palm Pre 2s start on November 12th in the UK (not sure if this will be for the US as well).
I know, Europe seems to get all the good updates and device launches first now! What’s up with that? At least the Verizon information—based on a leaked training slide for its employees—lets us know that the Palm Pre 2 really is coming to Big Red in the near future. Keep your fingers crossed for sometime this November, since Engadget dug up some rebate information that points in that direction.
As was previously thought, the ‘Exhibition’ feature will come as an over-the-air (OTA) update later to webOS 2. If you haven’t heard of the feature before, it lets you put your Palm in its dock and runs a slide-show you setup that displays your agenda and goals for the day, among other things. Think of it as a quick overview of your day to look at while trying to rub the sleep from your eyes in the morning.
The HP webOS 2.0 update that the UK is getting in December should show up here in the US before the end of the year. As previously reported, it will bring Adobe Flash 10.1 to the Palm platform for the Palm Pre and Pre Plus but not the current Pixi series. A Pixi 2 is expected to launch late this year or early next and that will probably be the first in the series to get Flash.
HP will be selling an unlocked, GSM version of the Pre 2 online eventually and while the November 12th date for the UK doesn’t prove anything for the US, our wait won’t be too long. Remember, if Verizon is prepping to sell this on its CDMA network in the very near future, HP can’t be far behind with the GSM unlocked version here in the States.
