The Samsung Galaxy Xcover 2, Uncovered and Exposed

Today it seems that wherever you look you’ll catch a Samsung smart phone in action. From the super high end to the mid range and even the low end, Samsung has a strangle hold on the mobile phone market and that grip is about to get a bit tighter with another Samsung smart phone. As the popularity of ruggedized smart phones grows, Samsung is surely watering the plants and staying ahead of the curve. Their latest ruggedized smart phone came in the form of a new Rugby variation known as the Rugby Pro. The new Samsung Galaxy Xcover 2 is the next variation of the original Xcover and is here to up the ante.

Samsung took to the airwaves today and published a press release for the Samsung Xcover 2 this morning and the world paused. The Galaxy Xcover 2 is a super durable ruggedized handheld that is boasted as the “ideal smart phone for active explorers who are enjoying outdoor lifestyles and seeking a durable mobile device with essential smartphone capabilities”.  The Xcover 2 has a very durable build that measures in at 12 mm thick and offers up IP 67 certification that provides water, dust and shock proofing. In the center of the build is a 4 inch TFT touch screen that offers up a 480×800 pixel resolution at 233 pixels per inch. Delving a bit deeper shows us the Galaxy Xcover 2 uses a 1GHz dual core system chip, an un-named GPU; 1 GB of RAM, 4 GB of built in storage and expandable microSDHC memory expansion up to 32 GB. Around back of the rugged build we’ll find a 5 mega pixel camera with an LED flash and host of camera tricks including 720p HD video recording, and a VGA quality front facing shooter. Additional connectivity can be had with the devices GPS and GLONASS navigation systems, HSDPA 14.4, Bluetooth 4.0, Wi-Fi 802.11 b, g, n, and microUSB 2.0. The Galaxy Xcover 2 runs with Android version 4.1 Jelly Bean and has time frame or release information attached.
