The LG Optimus VU Inches Closer To its American Debut

Ah, the elusive “phablet”. Initially Dell took to the market place with a “smartphone” that measured in at 5 plus inches and unfortunately for the company, the idea didn’t really take off. While the speed was there, the conditions seemed right the oversized Streak just could not get lift off. Fast forward a year or so with likes of the Galaxy S Note and the LG Optimus VU, you’d think that they were first time revolutions. The Galaxy Note has been around the world and back with a slew of sales enforcing its oversized presence in the game and now its LG’s turn.

The LG Optimus VU first appeared earlier this year in February and was release shortly their after to Korean markets only during the following month in March. With the phablet craze in full swing because of the Notes presence in the American market many interested consumers were left disappointed as the Optimus VU was just out of reach. But back in July a glimmer of hope for us smart phone hungry Americans shined through the hallways of the FCC where a Big Red LG Optimus VU was spotted getting its rank. To further confirm the VU’s path stateside, a leaky picture of a Verizon branded VU appeared in the wild would do, but what about word from LG or even Verizon? Well, today this news becomes official. In the middle of bragging about 500k units sold LG used their press release time to announce its intentions on shipping an LTE capable VU stateside. Unfortunately details of this announcement do not include us in on any specs or pricing, however its time frame is giving us a Verizon ready VU sometime within the third quarter of this year. This translates into, before the end of September.  While the press information does not specifically name Verizon as the new American home for the device, the previously mentioned material all but confirms that suspicion. Specs wise we would assume the new Optimus VU to not be far removed from the Asian version of the device. It will start with the likes of Android version 4.0 that will get its go from a more than capable 1.5 GHz dual core Snapdragon S4 processor. Additionally it will run with 1 GB of RAM, 32 GB of internal memory, an 8 mega pixel camera and a 5 inch touch screen display that clocks a 1024×768 pixel resolution at 4:3 aspect ratios. For details, unfortunately that is where the buck stops.

So it’s all but confirmed, the LG Optimus VU will soon be a part of the American psyche. Are you interested in a stylus toting monster phone? Sound off in the comments below and let us know what you think and remember, the very best in LG accessories are here!
