T-Mobile Probably Getting BlackBerry Bold 9780 in November
The yet unannounced but sure to be released soon BlackBerry Bold 9780 has already gotten a Canadian launch date, but some leaked documents from T-Mobile place it somewhere near Novemeber here in the United States. BlackBerry OS 6 might not have a release date for the Bold 9700, but it looks like that doesn’t matter much for Research In Motion (RIM).
The Bold 9780 is expected to launch October 21 in Canada. Thanks to some leaked documents from T-Mobile that TmoNews have gotten their hands on, we do know that the carrier is expected to start getting cases for the new 9780 on November 15. Since it would be downright silly for a carrier to sell cases for a phone that it does not sell, and T-Mobile’s network is naturally compatible with the GSM technology in the 9780, this is pretty much confirmation that the 9780 will hit shelves in November on T-Mobile. At the very latest, the first part of December. This is plenty of time for Christmas shopping.
Okay, I know. Where is BlackBerry OS 6 for the 9700? I don’t know. The good news is that if you like the traditional form factor of the BlackBerry, the 9780 is probably your best bet for a new BlackBerry. The bad news is that if you have a 9700, it looks like it has hit its end of life on at least one carrier.
For a quick rundown on the specs, the 9780 packs the same internals as the Torch. Same RAM, processor, camera, etc. Funny thing is, these are the same specs that the 9700 packs but with 512MB of RAM instead of 256MB and a 5 megapixel camera with flash instead of a 3 megapixel.
Anyone interested in snagging one of these on T-Mobile? Going to wait for it to come to another carrier? Or will you just be updating your current Bold 9700 to OS 6 when the update comes out? Let me know in the comments.
