Sprint to Supposedly Start Pre-Order Sales of HTC 7 Pro in December
Sprint might start selling the HTC 7 Pro via pre-order as soon as December 8th. This will be the first Windows Phone 7 (WP7) device on Sprint’s network and the first CDMA WP7 smartphone released. The information comes from the Twitter account of @MS_Nerd: “Exclusive (?) #WP7 #tip : Sprint HTC 7 Pro preorders start December 8, 2010. You may now commence guessing at the launch date. Verizon ???” MS_Nerd is a pretty reliable source, and past rumors have hinted at the same thing. Now like he said…when is a Verizon Wireless WP7 device going to be announced?
The Specs of the HTC 7 Pro:
- 4.63” x 2.32” x 0.61” (HxWxD)
- 6.53 oz with battery
- 3.6” touchscreen at 480 x 800 pixels (WVGA)
- Slide-out, landscape oriented physical keyboard
- 1 GHz processor
- 448 MB of RAM
- 512 MB ROM
- 8 GB internal storage
- 5 megapixel camera with autofocus and flash
- 720p HD video recording
- Wi-Fi b/g/n
- Bluetooth 2.1 w/stereo support
- Windows Phone 7 OS
Like what you see? All the WP7 devices being released this year will have 480 x 800 WVGA resolution screens and processors in the 1 GHz range. So far, only AT&T and T-Mobile have announced that they will sell smartphones powered by WP7. Microsoft obviously wants its new mobile operating system on as many carriers as possible, so Sprint and eventually Verizon getting models is no surprise.
Add in the fact that the FCC cleared a WP7 smartphone from HTC that uses CDMA technology (Sprint and Verizon’s networks) recently, and you have a recipe for WP7 on a carrier besides T-Mobile and AT&T (the two largest GSM carrier in the country).
Have you been waiting for WP7 to launch on Sprint or Verizon? A brand new phone operating system is no good if it is not available on your carrier. WP7 might have a few problems right now and the update due in January will bring some badly needed features but overall it is shaping up to look like a pretty good competitor.
Let me know what you think of the Sprint HTC 7 Pro. This going to be what you will pick up this holiday or will you wait for another WP7 smartphone for your needs? I can’t get over the fact that all of these new smartphones are so similar…
***UPDATE: Sprint’s branding is now shown on the HTC 7 PRO itself on
