Sprint Might be Getting the BlackBerry 9760 Clamshell

The BlackBerry Torch 9800 launch last week put everything else on the backburner, but I am happy to report that Sprint might also be getting the coming 9760 Clamshell. It was initially rumored that only Verizon would be getting this and no firm release date has yet popped up, but hey, hopefully this thing will sell better than the Torch has so far. Here’s a quick rundown on what is known about it:

  • CDMA cellular radio
  • Full QWERTY keyboard
  • 360×480 screen resolution
  • BlackBerry OS 6
  • 5 megapixel camera with flash
  • A-GPS
  • microSD
  • microUSB
  • Expected $199 price tag

While not the most impressive smartphone I have written about, the 9760 Clamshell does go in a direction that Research In Motion (RIM) has hesitated to explore–the clamshell. That’s right, this BlackBerry folds to fit into your pocket easier. OS 6 also making an appearance should keep the BlackBerry faithful quite happy, as the web browser it packs is a clear improvement from past versions. Plus, Social Feeds are integrated now, making it easier to keep tabs on your social life.

Whether or not the 9670 impresses enough people to upgrade to it remains to be seen however. The new Torch hasn’t been wowing many since it came out on the 12th of August, so we will see how this one does. The good news though is that another option for those wanting OS 6 should be coming shortly.

Think you’ll buy one of these? At least interested in it? Let’s see how many think the 9670 is going to flop and how many think that it is just the alternative to the Torch that RIM needs right now. I await your comments.
