Sony Ericsson introduces Xperia active and Xperia ray

Sony Ericsson is stepping back into the limelight after the recent launch of the gamer centric Xperia Play, with two new devices. The two new devices from Sony Ericsson take on the same Xperia titling and focus on a specific niche just as the Play does. The Xperia ray has first leaked its way onto the interwebs back in May under the name ST18i/Urushi and is now becoming official alongside the Xperia active. The two new devices while taking on the Xperia moniker simply refuses to use capitalization, because who needs capitalized letters when you have powerful phones like these.

Starting with the Xperia ray, it combines the power of a 1GHz Qualcomm processor with the amazing ability of Android version 2.3 and packs it all up very nicely in a super thin candy bar design that measures in at a mere 9.4mm. The ultra thin design and form factor use a 3.3 inch Mobile Bravia display that is made of a “scratch resistant mineral glass” and provides a pixel resolution of 854 x 480. The camera on the Xperia ray comes in at an impressive 8.1 mega pixels, has a 16x digital zoom and can be used to record video at 720p. The Xperia ray also sports a .3 mega pixel front facing camera for all of those extensive video chats. You can also expect the standards such as Bluetooth with A2DP profile support, Wi-Fi, Hot-Spot functionality and GPS.

The Xperia active is specifically directed at an active lifestyle, as if you couldn’t tell by the large lanyard lop toward the bottom of the device. The Xperia active sports an epic 3 inch Mobile Bravia display that sports a 320×480 pixel resolution and also has a unique “wet finger tracking” technology to allow use of your touch screen even with wet fingers, we’ve all been there. The candy bar form factor of the Xperia active packs a mean punch internally with its 1GHz processor, 512 RAM and expandable memory, this Xperia active can easily keep up with your active lifestyle. The Xperia active true to its name is dust proof and water resistant. The Xperia active can be held under 1 meter of water for up to 30 minutes and survive to tell its story. The active will also allow you to take stunning pictures with its 5 mega pixel shooter that can record video in 720p. Another unique feature about the Xperia active is its ANT+ radio that will allow on screen hear rate monitoring directly from the phone. The operating system running all of this goodness is of course none other then Android 2.3.

Two new Xperia Android devices are amazing new devices from Sony Ericsson that are sure to add a bit of competition to the market place once released sometime during Q3 this year. Pricing on these bad boys has yet to be announced. Interested in either of these excellent devices? Sound off and let us know what you think in the comments below.
