Samsung’s Galaxy S II Sheds its cool name in honor of American Carriers Marketing
Samsung ‘s Galaxy S line of smart phones is getting a refresh this year and goes by the name of the Samsung Galaxy S II. The Samsung Galaxy S II is the improved young brother to the original Galaxy S. If you recall the Galaxy S came into its American existence with multiple aliases for the likes of each carrier. Sprint, picked up the super sliding Epic 4G, At&t got their hands on the Captivate, Big Red pushed the Fascinate while Tmo came through with the Vibrant. All of these names have something in common, they don’t sound nearly as cool as the Galaxy S. But they most likely help sell so, moving on.
The screen shot you see above is from a cellular accessories distributor out of Pennsylvania and shows off some goodies surrounding the actual launch of a US based Galaxy S II as well as the super cool names that will accompany the devices to their carriers. According to the description of this black silicone skin, the Galaxy S II will carry carrier branded names such as Attain, Within and Function. When the Galaxy S II hits stateside under At&t it will be called the Attain, under Sprint it will be called Within and under Big Red’s moniker it will be hailed as the Function. Yea I know pretty lame huh. While Tmo is not listed under the compatibility section it would be safe to assume, they will indeed be getting a variation of the device, the way the Epic 4G was far from the standard form factor of the original Galaxy S. While it’s exciting to see the Galaxy S II come to the states, it’s almost comical the names given to such an amazing phone, as none of them truly express its capabilities. The Galaxy S II has some pretty impressive specs to say the least. Topside the Galaxy S II uses a 4.3 inch Super AMOLED Plus display with a 480 x 800 pixel resolution. The Galaxy S II uses a 1.2 GHz dual core processor and carries 1GB of RAM. The Galaxy S II also has an improved camera at 8 mega pixels and can record video in full 1080p HD. You can also expect to see the latest iteration of Android as it is fully equipped with version 2.3.3 with a bit of Samsung’s TouchWiz 4.0 sprinkled on top of it. Looking over the minimal specs above its safe to assume that whoever is picking these names are way off describing the Galaxy S II capabilities in on word.
Interested in the Within, Attatin or Function? No matter what the name the Galaxy S II is surely a fierce competitor. It’s unknown when these devices will be available and if they will carry the names leaked above, however a summer launch seems fitting.
