The Samsung Galaxy Nexus is finally available! It’s been about two months since the next generation Nexus was announced and the anticipation could not be cut with a chainsaw since. The Galaxy Nexus was set to be the next generation of standards for the super smart phone models to come. While this new variation of the Nexus comes from a long line of game changers, it seems that the Galaxy Nexus may be upping the ante for quite some time to come. After a slew of leaks, unofficial launch dates, prices and any other leak or rumor you can think of the Galaxy Nexus has now made its way to the shelves of Verizon stores. The Galaxy Nexus has been made available as of the December 15th for the low, low price of $300 on a set of new terms covering two years. So what should you expect for such a highly priced device? I waited sooo long for this phone it was killing me each time its arrival was delayed. While I am sure there are those who make up bogus issues so they can purposely trash one phone to make another look good. I can assure you that is not the case here.
I picked up my new Galaxy Nexus with eager anticipation yesterday afternoon. Much to my dismay, I immediately ran into problems. First off, the phone was unable to sync with my 2010 Ford Flex which has the Sync system built in. After over an hour on my own trying to diagnose the issue, I headed to the internet to find a solution. There I found that others were also having equally frustrating issues as me. Having a phone that cannot connect up to my car is simply a deal breaker for me. I really want this phone to be everything I waited 3 months for. So much so that this morning I spent another hour and a half with two separate Samsung reps online and even the local salesman at the store. All with no success.
In addition to the Bluetooth drama, I had several other items that left me underwhelmed with the Nexus. The battery life was abysmal, after a full overnight charge I used the phone for under 3 hours today (albeit it was with constant searching for Bluetooth sync, etc,.) only to find my battery level to register 21%. To top it all off I also was faced with:
* A bizarre vertical line on the screen (not in the glass) that would not go away.
* On multiple occasions when the phone was in the horizontal position it would shut down and reboot.
* Barely audible volume on the ringer when in mild noise environments, even at the highest settings.
I ended up returning the phone to Verizon today. As salt to the wound here, the return took 90 minutes and really tried the Christams spirit of my 11 year old daughter. I sure hope these issues get resolved and I am sure they will over time. I just could not wait or gamble, due a constant struggle with a failing Blackberry storm on its last leg. Not sure what to go with now. I am leaning towards the Razr but now I hear there is a Raxr Maxx is on the way (likely another planted rumor concocted to stall would be Razr buyers). I hate to pay $299 for a phone that will be replaced with an upgrade in a month or two. Speaking of upgrades, that may be the big issue with the Nexus. It seems to be a completely new design and as a first generation gadget it is now walking through its growing pains. Bummed I was a guinea pig along the way and that it was so time consuming. Best of luck to all of you and Merry Christmas.
