Samsung Introduces the Galaxy Mega 5.8 and Mega 6.3
Samsung makes the Galaxy Mega handsets official. It seems like every day a new Samsung device is released. New handsets from Samsung crop up nearly every week but these new behemoths are a bit different than your average smart phone. Samsung took a gamble with the oversized smart phone on the Note and Note II and it looks to have paid off. The original Note measures in 5.3 inches, the Note II takes it up a notch with a 5.5 inch display and today, Samsung has gone off the deep end of oversized smart phones with the Samsung Galaxy Mega devices.
Rumors surrounding the two new oversized smart phones have been circulating the mill for months now and it looks as if Samsung is ready to launch the Mega’s. The two handsets both named Galaxy Mega come in a 6.3 inch or 5.8 inch variation. Starting with the smaller of the two, the Samsung Galaxy Mega 5.8 has a rather large TFT touch screen that offers up a 540×960 pixel resolution at 190 pixels per inch. Internally the Mega 5.8 comes with a 2600 mAh battery, a 1.4 GHz dual core processor, GPU, 1.5 GB of RAM, 8 GB of internal store and expandable micro SDHC memory options up to 64 GB. Around back the Mega 5 packs in an 8 mega pixel camera, with an LED flash as well as a front facing shooter with a 1.9 mega pixel sensor. You can also expect details like GPS, Bluetooth 4.0, Wi-Fi, and a micro USB connection for sync and charging. The Samsung Galaxy Mega 6.3 is more of the same, just a bit larger. It comes with an 8mm thin build that houses a 6.3 inch screen at 720×1280 at 233 pixels per inch. Internally it will run with a 3200 mAh battery, expandable micro SD memory options up to 64 GB, 8 GB of internal storage, 1.5 GB of RAM and a 1.7 GHz dual core processor. The Mega 6.3 shares the same camera and connectivity details as its smaller sibling. However the Mega 6.3 comes with both LTE and HSPA radios, while the 5.8 is only HSPA ready. Pricing on the new super large smart phones is unfortunately unannounced at this point, but the devices will begin to become available globally starting in May in Russia and Europe and Samsung states the handsets will be gradually rolled out to other markets in the future.
