Nokia X7-00 Appears on Video and Features 4 Speakers

Nokia is looking to complement its smartphone lineup with phones designed for audio—the Xseries. Cue the Nokia X7-00 with its four speakers. Yes, you read that right. Surround sound smartphones aren’t just a fantasy. The X7-00 has even been spotted on video running a racing game (Need for Speed Shift to be exact) and poking through the user interface (it’s Symbian^3).

Don’t worry about the sluggish interface on Symbian. This is still a ways away from release and you can be sure that they will tweak and improve things before launch. What are the actual hardware specs of the Nokia X7-00 though? The X7 might not get the beautiful 12 megapixel camera of the N8 but everything else looks to be about in line with the N8.

Rumored Nokia X7-00 Specs:

  • 3.5” or 4” AMOLED touchscreen at 640×360 pixel resolution
  • 245 MB of RAM
  • 450 MB of storage
  • 8 megapixel camera with dual LED flash (no front-facing camera confirmed)
  • microUSB support

As for the processor and the rest of the internals, expect something like the N8—ARM 11 processor at 680 MHz , FM radio and microSD support. Of course, a carrier has not yet been confirmed for the X7-00 and neither has pricing. The release date is also unknown at this point.

I know it’s not a lot to go on, but we can already start to make some conclusions about the unannounced X7. Nokia still isn’t putting MeeGo on its smartphones even though it has downgraded the Symbian Foundation to nothing more than a licensing agency. The company is also still hardware focused. Don’t get me wrong, four speakers is a cool idea. Just not one that I would buy a smartphone for because if I’m listening to anything, it will be on headphones. Who actually listens to music on their phone’s speakers? I don’t care how good they are, they’re still tiny and tinny.

You interested in the Xseries by Nokia and the X7-00 in particular? I’m not sure that Nokia gets the fact that the reason why it is losing so much market share is because no one likes the operating system that it uses. If only Nokia would launch a smartphone with Android. Then I’m sure the excitement level would shoot through the roof. I can hope can’t I?

Let me know what you think.
