The Affordable Nokia Lumia 620 Announced
As a result of their legendary partnership, Nokia and Microsoft have been consistently pumping out some pretty awesome handsets in the name of Windows Phone. The pairing of the two companies offered up a seemingly wet dream for anyone familiar with Nokia’s awesomeness in the hardware business and Microsoft’s potential in reinventing their mobile OS. Early combinations of the two companies brought us the likes of the Lumia series including the Lumia 800, the Lumia 710, the Lumia 610, and the flagship Lumia 900. While said devices are not at the top of the smartphone totem pole, they stand on their own and are solid offerings. As Windows Phone moves to its second installment, new hardware has been brought to light. Most recently, the Lumia 810, the Lumia 820, and Lumia 920 are at the top of the pecking order, but a small surprise known as the Lumia 620 has just been announced!
Nokia unveiled the latest Lumia today at the LeWeb 2012 conference in France and it goes by the name of the Lumia 620. A mid sized device, with a mid range set of specs, and an amazingly competitive price. The Lumia 620 starts with one of the more important parts of Microsoft’s move to the head of the pack, colors! The Lumia 620, like most recent Windows Phone devices comes in vibrant color options, but the 620 enters the fray with what’s called a Dual-Shot technique that “creates a variety of interesting new colours and textures”. The process includes all kinds of wizardry, multiple layers of polycarbonate, color mixing and even a layer of clear coat. Offering some unique color blends, the Lumia 620 will be offered in lime green, white, yellow, pink, cyan and black and the best part is your 620,can be any of those colors. The “shell” of the 620 is interchangeable and will let you change colors depending on your mood! Labeled as the “most affordable of our three new Windows Phone 8 smartphones” the Lumia 620 packs in just enough to keep it a smart phone contender. It starts with a 3.8 inch ClearBlack touch screen that uses TFT technologies which provides a 480×800 pixel resolution at 246 pixels per inch. Delving a bit deeper, the 620’s system chip is provided by a Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 and clocks a dual core 1 GHz processor. Additionally it rocks an Adreno 305 GPU, 512 MB of RAM, 8GB of storage and expandable microSDHC memory options up to 64 GB. Huzzah! For expandable memory! The main or rear facing camera on the Lumia 620 measures in at 5 mega pixels and sports a few of Nokia exclusive camera tricks “like Cinemagraph and Smart Shoot” as well 720p HD video recording. A front facing VGA quality camera is also present. Internally the Lumia 620 packs in a 1300 mAh battery that can get you from 9.9 to 14.6 hours of talk time and up to 330 hours of standby time. Additional connectivity provided by the Lumia 620 comes from Bluetooth 3.0, Wi-Fi, microUSB 2.0, and NFC. The best part about the Lumia 620 will only cost you about $250 bucks this excluding applicable taxes and carrier subsidies. The device will ship starting in January and make its journey across the globe, starting in Asia then expanding to Europe and the Middle East.
