Microsoft Announces the Surface 2 and Surface Pro 2
Microsoft introduces their new Surface 2 and Surface Pro 2! Today is the day! Microsoft is lifting the veil off of their next generation Windows tablets and the world is breathing a sigh of relief! The original Surface tablets were announced by Microsoft back in June of last year. Unfortunately both the Surface Pro and Surface RT did not gain the traction it was hoping for in the market place, dealing with Apple’s iPad and Samsung’s onslaught of Galaxy Tabs. But could the second time be a charm? Or will Surface tablets be three strikes and you’re out? We will have to see what happens with the third generation tablets, but for now, let’s take a gander at the Microsoft Surface 2 and Surface Pro 2 shall we?
Microsoft took to a stage somewhere in NYC and announced the latest and quite possibly the greatest generation of Windows 8 tablets known to man! Starting, with the Surface 2! While the new tablet looks to be much of the same, there are some new improvements all around. Firstly the device starts with a 10.6 inch LCD touch screen that offers up a 1920×1080 pixel resolution at about 207 pixels per inch. Internally the new tablet comes running with a Nvidia made Tegra 4 quad core processor that clocks in at 1.7 GHz. It comes packing 2 GB of RAM and internal storage of 64 or 32 GB with expandable micro SD storage support. The tablet runs with the latest in Windows RT version 8.1 and comes with all the connectivity one could need including Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.0 and USB 3.0. Around back you’ll find a 5 mega pixel camera while a 3.5 mega pixel sensor is embedded up front. The Surface 2 is dubbed as the “most productive tablet ever built”! The next tablet launched by Microsoft is the Surface Pro 2. The Surface Pro 2 does not differ much from the Surface 2. It comes with a 10.6 inch LCD touch screen that offers up the same 1920×1080 pixel resolution at 207 pixels per inch and runs with Windows 8 version 8.1. Internally however the Pro variation comes with an Intel made Haswell dual core i5 processor that clocks in at 1.6 GHz as well as an Intel made HD Graphics 4400 GPU. Additionally the new tablet comes with 4 GB of DDR3 RAM and will be offered in 512, 256, 128 and 64 GB variations with additional external storage via micro SD memory cards. Connectivity can be found with the likes of Wi-Fi, and Bluetooth 4.0. Pricing for the Surface 2 pro starts at $899 and can reach up to $1800! The non Pro variation Surface 2 starts at $450 for the 32 GB version and $550 for the 64 GB.
