Jobs Speaks: The Scoop is in From Cupertino

The silence at Apple headquarters in Cupertino, California was finally broken today, with Apple CEO Steve Jobs announcing that everyone who has purchased an iPhone 4 would receive a free case. Apple has been shaken about in the media recently since it was discovered that the reception on its wildly popular smart phone was negatively affected by users touching part of integrated external antenna when just trying to use the new phone. The final blow was delivered by Consumer Reports, which withheld its “Recommended” rating for the iPhone despite the very high marks that it received in testing.

Apple killed speculation of a massive recall with its 1PM EST press conference today and while free cases for the iPhone 4 will definitely fix any reception issues that customers have using the phone barehanded, they might have some disappointed. Apple recovered from a huge and nearly deadly slump with the launch of its quirky-styled iMac a little over a decade ago and has been riding the ‘i’ wave all the way to the top since. Its iPhone series has brought touchscreens to the forefront of the highly competitive smart phone market, and the company managed to sell 1.7 million iPhone 4s within the first three days of its launch.

Jobs made an uncharacteristic apology at the news conference however, “We’re not perfect, and phones aren’t perfect either, but we want to make all of our users happy,” which might cool down some offended by emails allegedly sent by Jobs that included one which told customers that they hold the phone differently. That quote not sound quite apologetic enough? He also stated that “To our customers who are affected by the issue, we are deeply sorry.” There you go Jobs; the pain is part of the healing process. As for those lamenting the recent stock Apple stock price drop, he did not offer the same kind words of remorse and bluntly stated he has no apology for that.

The free case offer will last until September 30th, and anyone who has previously purchased the normally $29 case through Apple will be eligible for a full refund for it. You will need to register at Apples website in order to receive your free case registration will begin late next week.

The news from Cupertino satisfying?

Happy that you will get a free case?

Or is this all just fluff and are you still angry that the phone is not working as promised?
