Get Your iTunes to Sync With Your BlackBerry

Ah finally. Research In Motion Ltd.’s (RIM) BlackBerry has gotten an app that gives you music features that even those iPhone users do not have: the ability to wirelessly synchronize your BlackBerry to your iTunes playlists from anywhere. Available now on the BlackBerry App World for $15, Music WithMe promises a lot and delivers. According to the official press release:

“Music WithMe wirelessly syncs users’ iTunes playlists with their smartphone, eliminating the need for a USB connection or secondary portable music playing device. Music WithMe provides the easiest way for smartphone owners to have their favorite music with them on the go.

Using a cellular network or Wi-Fi connection, BlackBerry smartphone owners can automatically and wirelessly download music files from their iTunes collection to their device anytime, anywhere. Unlike streaming solutions, once music is downloaded, no wireless connection is required meaning no more data is used – saving money and battery power and providing a dependable music listening experience regardless of cellular reception. Users can sync as much music from their iTunes library as their BlackBerry smartphone can store.”

Since everything runs in the background, once the app is installed all you have to do is use iTunes normally and the phone will update itself to match. The built-in BlackBerry music play works with the software too. The requirements are even pretty modest. BlackBerry OS 4.5 and above is supported and it will work with iTunes v7.1 and higher on Windows XP, Vista and 7. No Macintosh compatibility yet unfortunately. A free 30-day trial is offered, so there is no excuse not to check it out and see if you like it.

As BlackBerrys become more popular among consumers—we reported earlier that it is now a 50/50 split between corporate and consumer users—apps like this become essential. Part of Apple’s success has been its iTunes software and the enormous popularity of its iPod since its release. It made sense to purchase an iPhone if you do not mind AT&T’s network, love iPods and purchase your music through iTunes. Now that line has blurred and BlackBerrys everywhere are the winner.

Have you tried Music WithMe yet? Let me know what you think of it.
