More than one iPhone Size? Rumors Say Yes

The Verizon iPhone rumors have only grown stronger since the Wall Street Journal published an article yesterday stating that Apple is expect to start shipping a Verizon iPhone early next year. The rumors are getting even juicier now, with claims that Apple could be working smaller and larger screen sized iPhone models to complement its existing size. Does this have something to do with that rumored 7” iPad 2 model? Probably.

An anaylist at Kaufman Bros.—Shaw Wu—is claiming that overseas supplier checks hint that more than one new iPhone model will be produced sometime in 2011 and possibly on multiple carriers. Why different sized iPhones? Apple has just turned its iPod nano into a kind of mini iPod touch with a stripped down iOS. Its iPad is selling like crazy. Why not branch out a little and offer cheaper, mini iPhones and larger screened top of the line models? Throw in the multiple carriers and Apple might have a real response to Android’s stunning success. If you can’t compete against so many competing phone models with just one, then why not just make a bunch too? That might be what Apple is thinking.

Of course, there has only been just one iPhone in the past. It might get updates but its screen size has remained the same. Apple has never sold more than one model at once (besides its older inventory stock) before with phones. Will customers get confused? Toss in different specs, sizes and price rangers and the options get a lot more interesting. And more difficult.

So what do you think? Would be you be interested in an iPhone nano? How about a larger screen sized iPhone with a bigger battery and faster processor than the normal sized one offers? Willing to pay more to the tune of $400 with contract for a super iPhone? The idea is certainly tempting.

Let me know if you think the multiple screen sized iPhone and iPad rumors are just nonsense, or a sign that Apple really is going to start making more than one iPhone at a time.
