Id’s Rage Hits iTunes for Sale—It Will Blow You away
Id Software’s Rage is finally available on the iTunes App Store. In case you haven’t heard about Rage yet, it is a gorgeous on-rails shooter that allows you to look around in all directions as you move around. Personally, I’m not a big fan of shooters on rails, but the ability to look around makes things a lot better in my book. Surprisingly, there are actually two versions of Rage available—Rage and Rage HD.
Both games are nearly identical, but Rage HD is a larger download and features higher resolution graphics. The regular version goes for an easy $1, and the HD costs a whole $2. For the best looking game on iOS to date, you will definitely want to check this game out. However, unless you are sporting an iPhone 4, iPod touch 4 or iPad, you will want to get the regular version.
Rage will also be showing up on other platforms in the future, including PCs and dedicated gaming consoles but iOS got it first.
So what exactly is the point of the game? Well, you are in a post-apocalyptic future, on a game show, hunting mutants. That got your attention? The squeamish will probably want to stay away. The iOS version (this should probably be called Rage Mobile) is not the same game that will appear for more powerful gaming machines next year, but is set in the Rage universe.
As you can see from the screenshot of the game on the iPhone, the graphics are about on par with some of the last games that came out for the original Xbox. No wonder Sony is freaking out over its PSP. Apple’s iOS family of devices can pump out some very impressive graphics. Now if the battery would just last longer…
So what do you think of Rage for iOS? Thinking about snagging a copy? You know this is just the beginning of serious gaming for the platform. Between casual games like Angry Birds and ‘hardcore’ gaming titles like Rage, the smartphone gaming market is sure to have something for everyone.gaming, Apple iTunes App Store, iOS gaming
