HTC Mondrian using Windows Mobile 7

Android smartphones are flooding the market releasing several models at a time. Although HTC is preparing to release the EVO 4G with the Wildfire coming soon after, there are already reports of another HTC smartphone device already in the works. Introducing the HTC Mondrian.

If successful, the HTC Mondrian will completely blow the competition out of the water. Unconfirmed reports have been coming in that the new HTC smartphone will be sporting at least a 1.3 Ghz Snapdragon processor from Qualcomm. This in itself is still unheard of, considering the most powerful smartphones being available to date only contain 1 Ghz processors. The device will also be having a 4.3 inch WVGA screen with a resolution of 480 x 800 pixels. Internal storage is expected to be at least 16 GB with 512 MB RAM, in order to meet the basic requirements for running the Windows Phone 7 OS. It is also said to have both the CDMA as well as GSM 3G support. In comparison with other Android smartphones, the HTC Mondrian may only have a touch sensitive screen, no physical QWERTY keyboard. Other features that may be added in include a built in 5 MP camera, capable of HD recording as well as digital compass.

What may make the smartphone community more excited is that the Mondrian will be using the much awaited Windows Phone 7 OS. The success of the Mondrian will help determine whether the Windows Phone 7 OS will work with the smartphone market. This is something which consumers will look out for as it is different from other operating systems previously produced by Microsoft. The UI will be unlike those that came before it and may not run previously produced applications. If the name of HTC Mondrian is a clue to how the UI will appear, it may sport a similar look to the Metro UI.
