HTC Merge Accessories Appearing on Verizon’s System
Accessories for the yet unreleased HTC Merge are showing up in Verizon Wirelesses internal computer systems, which can only mean one thing. The HTC Merge is almost here! Expect it to start showing up at your local Verizon store in less than a month. In fact, think something along the lines of November 11th.
- 3.7” 480 x 800 resolution touchscreen
- 800 MHz processor
- 512 MB of RAM
- 5 megapixel camera with LED flash and 720p HD video recording
- microSD support
- GPS, Bluetooth and Wi-Fi
- World Phone abilities
- Android 2.2 ‘Froyo’ OS
- HTC Sense UI
Overall, the HTC Merge is a solid smartphone. The fact that cases for the merge are already appearing on Verizon’s internal systems means that this thing has to be just around the corner. The slide-out, QWERTY keyboard doesn’t feel cheap and HTC has a lot of experience on how to build a smartphone that customers want. Of course, Motorola’s Droid Pro is coming out soon and it being a world phone as well might bring some pressure to what HTC is making here.
Of course, the HTC Merge has some advantages over the Motorola Droid Pro. A much higher resolution screen is in the Merge, though the Droid Pro does have some features designed for business users. HTC might have beaten Motorola to the punch here since some of the features like VPN can be added later through a software update.
Android 2.3 ‘Gingerbread’ is almost upon us and Google wants to strengthen its own UI to the point where it can keep its manufacturing partners from putting their own skins on top. That’s a goal that is going to take some serious time and work. Are you looking forward to the HTC Merge? Excited about its world phone abilities? Wish HTC got rid of its HTC Sense UI or love it? Let me know in the comments. HTC and Motorola are setting themselves apart from the rest of the Android smartphone making pack.rumor, HTC Merge, Motorola Droid Pro, accessory
