The Oversized HTC DLX Phablet Specs All but Confirmed
Lately the rise of the oversized smart phone is taking over the market. End users who claimed to never need something so absurdly large find themselves with the likes of Galaxy Notes, and LG Intuitions. With the wildly popular success of Samsung’s oversized smart phone it seems that all competitors are feeling the phablet itch. LG has there Optimus VU, Samsung is in the lead with the the Note and even companies like Pantech are entering the space with the Vega R3. One company that we haven’t seen a phablet from is HTC, but by the looks and sounds of it. That’s all set to change.
Recently the HTC Droid Incredible X popped up into the rumor mill spilling the beans on what a 5 inch smart phone from the infamous HTC
would look like. Shortly after its blurry cam pictures the internets went wild anticipation of the oversized HTC handset and it looks like we’ve got a bit more information on the handset. Today a Twitter account that goes by the name of Football4PDA has leaked some more juicy spec details and the HTC DLX looks to be forming into a nice piece of hardware. The Tweet goes on to state mostly what has already been rumored however the source in this situation has been pretty accurate recently with some Windows 8 HTC leaks. The account states that the new HTC DLX will come packing a Snapdragon S4 Pro chip set that clocks in at 1.5 Ghz. Its screen is said to measure in at 5 inches and sport an HD display that shows off a 1080p pixel
resolution. Additional details from the Tweet show the DLX to pack in 1.5 GB of RAM and 16 of internal storage space. Around back we can expect a 12 mega pixel camera as well as an additional front facing shooter that clocks in at 2 mega pixels. The leak rounds out with a 2500 mAh battery, which unfortunately is said to be sealed, or non-removable. And last but not least, the new HTC DLX will come running Android version 4.1.2. The only details missing from this epic new smart phone are its release date, price point and destination.

I have always been an HTC fan, but that is rapidly changi g. The Android world is SUPPOSED 2b about “maximum individual choices. Integrated batteries are a direct slap in the face of that practical ideal. Sadly there are fanboys out there who get so “gaga” over the otherwise great specs of a new phone, such as the HTC DLX, that they don’t think they or anyone else has the right to criticize the manufacturers foolish anti-consumer decisions.
Bottom line, a replaceable battery (and for that matter an optional physical keyboard), are very consumer friendly choices that consumers deserve to have made available to them. In fact, phones should be designed so that carriers can offer 2-4 different upgrade batteries at the point of purchase. This would male both them, and the consumer happier. Those who are satisfied with a standard small 2500mah battery could walk out with what they want. And those who want a 4000mah battery, such as I bought from Seidio, for my Evo 3D, could pay the difference in cost (plus profit) and walk out with that. Those who wanted 10,000mah or more (such as I would LOVE to have available for my EVO), could pay the upgrade price for that. Those who preferred to swap out standard (or larger) batteries throughout the day could buy extras. Those who might want 2 or more different sizes for different situations (work/social/vacation or other situations) could buy what they wanted, either at point of purchase, or later on as the special need presented itself. Just because many (or even possibly most) people might not need any of these options, is NO reason that these options should be denied to everyone else. To disagree with that is to deny free choice and the freewheeling (and very logical) Infinite Diversity in Infinite Combinations nature of Android (or at least its theoretical ideal). There is a natural home for those who like for themselves and everyone else to be locked behind a walled garden with no free consumer choices–it is called the iPhone. We of the Android world, should NEVER seek to emulate that world, especially as to their proclivities for reducing our choices and our control.
And another point, to those who might think that closing off our “easy” choices in modifyimg our phones is “ok” as long as there is some skilled person with a soldering iron and hacking skills who can theoretically get around “most or all” of it “most of the time”–I would say this: We need, in ALL things and at ALL times, in ALL devices–to have “easy, user friendly choices” made available to us. This ethos should be DELIBERATELY baked in by every phine manufacturer–and advertised loudly as such! We, the Android consumer, should NEVER be plotted against by phone designers! We should NEVER be faces with having to hack or solder ANYTHING (unless we wish to). It should be “assumed”, at the conceptual and design and marketing stages, that we want maximum hardware and software choices!

“The only other things revealed about HTC’s smartphone is that it’ll have a removable 2500 mAh battery and that it’ll run on Android Jelly Bean.”
Also have seen posts claiming it WILL have a microSD.
You people beating this device down need to research the rumors a bit more.

I feel like they are trying to go for a form thats just not HTC. I hope this phablet comes in white because the black just makes the phone a bore. I wonder how much it will cost.

Will there be a GSM version released anytime soon?

With only 16 GB of memory, the phone better have a microSD slot.

1.5g ram? s3 2g ram. thats kinda odd. but i will say i have the evo 4g lte, nobody makes an extended battery for it. hope someone makes one quick for this.

It seems like htc just doesn’t get it. If they had made the battery removable, gave it a memory card, and stylus pen, I would have jumped all over this phone. How will this phone ‘ Rock the World’? How can they think it will actually compete with the Note 2? I hope you sink htc! I am with Verizon and my contract isn’t up until June. I am currently using the Motorola DROID X 2, which I have been happy with. I would really like to upgrade to a 4G phone, but until someone can come up with something that is really awesome, I guess I’ll just have have to wait some more.

Unfortunately no. There has been no mention of it going back a few leaks, and with the recent trend its a good chance it will be MIA…

I have a Dell Streak 5, sadly discontinued, and think it absolutely fantastic. When I got and still today people cast the glance if disbelief that I am wielding such an ungodly large device, especially when I use it to make a call. I quite enjoy the size and yes it does fit in my pocket even with an otter box case on it. If you are prone to wearing boy scout shorts you might be out of luck though. Anyways a five inch screen is definitely a manageable size both for a phone and tablet. People that think it’s to big should consider blue tooth headsets as a fix to that. And if they think it’s to small to be a tablet I urge them to try sticking an 7 or 10 inch tablet in their pocket. While I’m out of luck when my streak 5 goes off to the waste facility I am glad that companies are picking up on the phablets and look forward to getting a device with more recent hardware.

Is the battery sealed so they could fit a bigger one in there?
