Update on Android v2.1

The much awaited Android 2.1 update is…not coming yet. Sprint has just recently issued an official statement indicating that the updates for the Samsung Moment and HTC Hero will be available until sometime during the 2nd quarter of this year. There are no confirmed dates yet. Owners have been waiting for months with just rumors to go on. Now, at least with the official statement from Sprint already released, there is something more concrete to look forward to.

According to the official statement from Sprint, “Sprint continues to work closely with Samsung and HTC to deliver the highly anticipated Android 2.1 upgrade for Samsung Moment and HTC Hero. We are on track for the upgrade to be available in Q2.” Which begs the question, is the issue with the updates on the smartphone manufacturers HTC and Samsung or Sprint itself which is causing all the delays?

With the Android 2.1 update, consumers will hopefully get to enjoy some of the current features on the popular HTC Incredible Droid such as widgets and upgraded multimedia features, wall papers, music software, updates for Google Maps and Goggles. Some of much needed updates include a security upgrade as well as optimizing the duration of the battery.

Fans of the HTC Android products such as HTC Hero have had numerous sources for their frustration over the delay of the Sprint updates. Numerous applications that would be able to use the updates have long been released.  Some of the first reports indicated that the update would come by the first week of May to no avail. The popular HTC Droid Incredible has already been upgraded to Android 2.1 during the earlier parts of April this year. Numerous forums have  already been filled with their irate statements, which may have forced the company to release their official statement. Hopefully, Sprint would be able to give a more defined date soon.
