Honeycomb is making its way to Google’s Desert Buffet to update Gingerbread

Recently the whole Android community has been holding their breath for the release of the famed Froyo update for Google’s Android OS. Unfortunately there are some users with certain devices that may have passed out already. If your rocking Froyo 2.2 right now, don’t start breathing too soon as 3.0 is rearing its tasty deliciousness in the form of Gingerbread.

Gingerbread is to be the next installment of Google’s Android platform and will also be known as 3.0. This has been known for awhile, now  so what’s news here? Honeycomb is making its name known recently via Techradar, whom basically stated that Honycomb will be the update to Gingerbread. Think 2.2 Froyo was an update to 2.1 Éclair, essentially updating Gingerbread 3.0 to the likes of 3.1 or 3.2. Awhile back Google made an announcement that they would essentially be delaying or slowing the pace of their operating systems updates, the cut back would put OS updates scheduled for about once a year. Sounds good right, well sort of, as if the delay information sticks we might be in it for the long haul waiting on Honeycomb. Androids Gingerbread or 3.0 will hit the market sometime in October and will be designed to focus on the new slew of devices that will surely be hitting the market soon. Have you heard of the amazing resolution and processing power that is being rumored for the future of mobile? Well Google has and this is the exact reason as to why Gingerbread will be optimized around devices with higher screen resolutions and larger processors. So it looks like Froyo will be around for sometime as Gingerbread will most likely not be compatible with even the smartest or most powerful smartphones of the day. Oh and just in case you missed it, here is short listing of the delicious deserts that have come from Google. Android 1.5 was a Cupcake, 1.6 was a Donut, 2.0 was an Éclair, 2.2 is the most recent and is Froyo and soon to come 3.0 Gingerbread.

So more details about Google’s Android OS make me excited, the names make me hungry and the potential power of them makes me sweat with anticipation.

What about you? Will you be upgrading
