Froyo update for HTC phones by December
If you are a faithful Android user, your fate is being tested yet again. In the past we have brought you news on the latest updates out of the Google camp in regard to an update for the Android OS. If you have not been following along the version 2.2 code named Froyo, has had its butt shown off a few times. The news of Google releasing the source codes to its crony’s and then issuing the update to its beloved Nexus One, had pretty much the whole Android community eager with anticipation. Well the wait is not over.
This morning brings us news out of the Pocket-Lint camp, that the Froyo update to most Android phones will not be seen until sometime in December. Pocket-Lint had the chance to get some juicy details about the Froyo release from HTC’s own global PR and online community manager, Eric Lin. Eric went on to state that HTC would be done with the Froyo update by sometime before Christmas. Eirc then goes on to explain that porting all of HTC apps over to the updated Froyo OS is no easy task and will take some time. Eric was quoted saying ““It takes time to port all of our applications over to Froyo and then make sure that it is running well on each of our devices. That’s not like a one week kind of project”. Lin then goes on to state that after all applications are ported to the new OS, they need to run them through their hardware (phones) and double check functionality ensuring that the apps are running up to the caliber that is expected from an HTC phone.
So it looks like most HTC users running Android OS version 2.1 will be waiting a little longer for the goodies that Froyo has to offer. This is putting Sprint EVO 4G users and Verizon’s Droid Incredible users in the good old fashioned waiting game. Eric also stated within the interview that the world would most likely not see the already famed Gingerbread until 2011.
Are you a EVO or Incredible user?
Have you been waiting for this update?
How do you feel about it being pushed back this far?
Sound off and tell HTC how you feel!

I knew this announcement was coming. Waiting on the Froyo update…though it may kill me deeply, is sort of a “necessary evil.” It sucks that we Evo 4G users must wait an extended period of time. On the other hand, despite it’s mixed reviews in the cell phone market, HTC’s Sense UI delivers a very intuative and polished OS experience….further enriching the vanilla Android software. It will hurt, but I will gladly wait until December if it means I can have my Froyo and eat it too.

This is disappointing to an extent. My favorite application to use on the android OS is the sling player. I work 4 jobs and they are jobs that offer me a lot of freedom in regards to not having to walk around everywhere and having a lot of free time to just sit down and watch television on my phone. Having a faster browser would be nice but it is not a must. I am more concerned with Wimax being rolled out as I own an HTC Evo. The thing that impressed me the most about android 2.2 was the full flash player 10.1 which I probably would’ve used to watch movies and television shows on megavideo or another source that didn’t require divx. Another feature I was looking forward to was the Microsoft Exchange Support. I would love to be able to have my work email right at my fingertips which I miss from the times I had a blackberry curve. My next phone will without a doubt be an HTC sabor for sprint. I cannot see myself going to another network because I stream a huge amount of data due to using the sling player and a data cap would not sit well with me at all. I’ve used well over 3 gigs in a 14 day period and I didn’t have the sling player at the beginning of this cycle so using over 10 gigs a month is not far-fetched at all. So I guess when it comes to operating systems I’m not totally stuck on android 2.2. I’m more concerned with Data plan costs and the power of a phone rather than its operating system.
