Droid X Froyo leaks a little early
The Motorola Droid X came on to the scene recently impressing a lot of people, unfortunately however the Droid X released with Androids 2.1 operating system. This essentially leaving most early adopters of the model wishing for Froyo and literally praying that the update will improve some bugs that users have been complaining about, well your faithful day is soon upon you but if you cannot wait any longer for the official OTA check this out.
The Froyo update according to some unknown sources should be available to Droid X users within the next 24 hours. This according to electronista.com, who also points out that a MyDroidWorld forum member, has recently posted pictures of his Droid X’s setting’s page revealing his Droid X is running on the tasty deliciousness of Android’s Froyo. Only problem is Motorola went on record in the past stating that the Froyo update for the Droid X will most likely not happen until September. So be sure to let us know if you see your OTA to Froyo within the next 24 hours. In other news surrounding Froyo for the Droid X it looks as if the same user from MyDroidWorld has posted a the download for the manual update to the Droid X. This update can be installed on Rooted or non-rooted devices. The process on downloading the update can be found at www.mydroidworld.com, so go check it out.
Keep in mind that rooting and or even manually updating non official software can seriously ruin your phone or void the warranty, so proceed with caution and if you go through with the manual update take your sweet time make sure all is well. Then if you successfully install, donate to the guys who helped you out with this one.
Let us know what you think, will you be manually updating to Froyo via this leak? Or will you wait for the official version? Oh and if you see the official version hit your updateable’s, let us know.

For people who are unfamiliar and uninterested in learning about flashing sbf files through RSD lite and using adb or terminal(though this really isn’t rocket science), I agree with PatDroid’s assertion that it is not worth manually installing the leaked update.
However, for people who are comfortable with these things, I believe that the risk of doing permanent damage is rather minor. Thanks to some amazing dev’s, restoring a bricked X to a pristine state is nearly always possible.

The update instructions are simple enough but I’ll wait for the official push of Froyo. My X running the way I want it to so why jeopardize it? We’re talking just two or three more weeks of waiting at most. Not enough in my view to risk voiding the warranty with a rogue update.
