Dell Makes the Venue Pro Official in the US, Starts Shipping December 9th
The new Dell Venue Pro has been made official for sale in the US and Dell is now selling them through its own website with a shipping date of December 9th. The Venue Pro runs Microsoft’s new Windows Phone 7 (WP7) operating system and shows Dell’s commitment to trying to break into the smartphone world. T-Mobile is the carrier for the new smartphone.
AT&T already has three WP7 smartphones on the market and the Venue Pro will join the HD7 on T-Mobile’s network as the carrier’s second WP7 device. The Venue Pro has drawn a lot of news since it was first leaked and then announced in Europe for early sales. While most people who have had the chance to use the smartphone have really liked it and the way it feels in the hand, the phone has already experienced shipping delays abroad for pre-launch sales and a Wi-Fi bug that prevented some of the first batch from connecting to protected Wi-Fi networks. (Microsoft let users return them to the store for a unit with some updated software that worked.)
Still, the Dell Venue Pro is expected to be one of the more popular WP7 devices to come out before the holidays. Dell has already announced that it is making 25,000 of its employees switch to the Venue Pro from RIM’s BlackBerry line. While this is of course a bold step designed to show Dell’s faith in its own hardware and Microsoft’s WP7 efforts, you have to admit that the Venue Pro looks like the next generation of business phone.
