While none of the specs here are suprising–after all, the 9780 is going to be mostly a BlackBerry OS 6 refresh of the Bold 9700 with double the RAM–there are going to be both camera and non-camera versions of this
available. Why non-camera versions? Some companies don’t want their employees taking pictures.
As for the processor inside the R020, rumor has it that it will be running the same 624 MHz processor as the 9700 and the Torch 9800. However, many have criticized the processor in question as slower than what comes in many high-end smartphones from other manufacturers. It is true that the 9800 running with OS 6 sometimes seem a tad slow, however as OS updates roll out, it should improve in the speed category.
Regardless of how you feel about the processor speed though, the 5 megapixel camera that RIM currently uses in its Torch (and presumably being brought to this new device) is not capable of recording video in 720p HD. Also, as RIM has shown signs that it wants to start moving toward more touchscreen models (the recently released Torch, the coming Storm 3, the coming BlackPad, etc.), will customers want a non-touchscreen model? These are all important points.
Let me know if you’re interested in this model or if you will wait for something more impressive to appear in the coming months.
