BlackBerry Bold 9780 with AT&T Branding Spotted on Video
The BlackBerry Bold 9780 has resurfaced on video with AT&T’s branding clearly visible on the front. The new smartphone from Research In Motion (RIM) already hit T-Mobile’s network in November and has not yet been announced for AT&T. The 9780 is a refresh of the 9700 and ships with the much improved BlackBerry OS 6. The 9700 still has not received an official BlackBerry OS 6 update, which probably has a lot to do with why the 9780 has twice the RAM of its predecessor.

Okay, so the guy is selling his unlocked, AT&T branded Bold 9780 for $899. He even makes a claim on the item’s eBay page that AT&T will not start selling this until next year. I’m not sure about that, but it would make sense for T-Mobile’s deal with RIM to block AT&T from selling this until after the holidays. Like I said, T-Mobile is already selling the Bold 9780 and it is even HSDPA+ compatible with the carrier’s 4G network.
Here’s a quick jot over the Bold 9780’s specs:
- 2.44 inch display at 480×360
- 624 MHz Marvell processor
- 512 MB of RAM
- 5 megapixel camera with LED flash
- microSD support
- Wi-Fi b/g
- Bluetooth 2.1 (A2DP)
- BlackBerry OS 6
The 9780 features RIM’s new BB OS 6 web browser, which is based on the same Webkit technology that powers both Apple and Google’s mobile browsers. The new browser is also HTML5 compatible. Besides just the operating system update, the 9780 improves on the camera in the 9700 and increases the RAM from 256 MB to 512 MB to match the Torch 9800.
T-Mobile is selling the new BlackBerry for $129.99 with a new contract but you can snag the Bold 9780 for $99 right now from Wireless Ground. We have just recently started offering smartphones and plans through all four major carriers in addition to the mobile accessories we stock. Keep us in mind as a complete solution to your mobile needs this holiday season.
Think it’s worth waiting it out for the Bold 9780 to pop up on AT&T’s network? For the Bold 9700 owners out there, all I can say is that there has been no recent word on the promised BB OS 6 update.
