Take a Peak at the BlackBerry 9670 ‘Style’

The yet unannounced but surely on its way BlackBerry 9670 ‘Style’ is a unique smartphone. I have already laid out my two cents on the design, but hey, I am sure some are interested in the flip phone look. Some videos have appeared of the Style in action, so take a look:

Overall, I still stand by my claim that this looks like a clunk smartphone to use. Flip phones are just so 1990s. There is a reason why everyone moved away from them. Sure, you don’t have to lock your screen with a flip phone, but that is hardly a big deal. Research In Motion (RIM) cannot rely solely on its BlackBerry brand anymore to push sales either. The new 9800 Torch is not selling nearly as well as expected, and from what I have seen of the Style, the Torch is a far better smartphone.

Also, how are developers going to react to having yet another form factor to have to code apps for? The BlackBerry platform is already splintered into far too many different models with different configurations than developers would want. Even Android OS looks like it has more consistency among its devices than RIM does right now.

I am also a little suspicious of how much people are going to use the external display on the Style. Is anyone really used to going back in time to the flip phone era? Most of us quickly forgot about external displays when we first moved up into the smartphone market. Furthermore, are developers going to do anything with the external display? Probably not.

Let me know what you think of the 9670 Style. I don’t like it, but if you have a different view, please share.
