The ARCHOS 70b Is an Affordable Honey Comb Tablet

Since the launch of the most infamous tablet the iPad, manufacturers have been scurrying around trying to compete. With many attempts under the Android belt it seems that the price may be the key. ARCHOS has seemingly taken a page from Amazon’s ‘book’ with the latest variation of the 70b. But what could be better than a two hundred dollar tablet? Well a tablet running Honey Comb and that is exactly what ARCHOS is introducing. While it doesn’t have access to the multimedia library that the Kindle Fire does, the ARCHOS 70b is surely an affordable contender.

While ARCHOS may not be a household name the French based company has been pumping out excellent consumer electronics for a long time now. The company has announced their latest variation of the 70b Android based device. The 70b while it does not sport a super catchy name it packs in just what you need to stay connected or entertained from anywhere. The 70b will be made available come January 2012 starting at the low price of $199 for the 8GB model. So what’s in a name or price? Well internally the ARCHOS 70b will run the latest in Android version 4.0 or Ice Cream Sandwich.  Internally Android will get it’s go from a 1.2 GHz single core processor that’s backed by 512 MB of RAM. While all the specs on the 70b are not exposed we know a bit from the press release. We can expect an HDMI output, a 1024×600 capacitive touch screen, 8GB of internal storage with expandable microSD and of course access to the Android market and Google made apps. Additional details put in a 3D graphics accelerator as well as Wi-Fi connectivity. While the details on the new 70b run flat after that we will surely get a better look at the table come CES. By the looks and sounds of this new ARCHOS 70b tablet it seems that the Kindle Fire and others have some serious competition. With a price point and power like this all they’ll need is a decent marketing campaign. So what do you think?
