Apple’s iOS 4.3 ready for download

Folks in iOS land, get your 30 pin data cables ready the new iOS operating system version 4.3 is ready to take over your iOS device and well…improve upon 4.2. Today March 9th at around 1 pm EST Apple dropped iOS 4.3 for all your iPad and iPhone needs. You can get the update in your normal iTunes location. Simply plug your iPhone or iPad into iTunes and click “Check for Update”. But what are you getting? Let’s take a look at iOS 4.3 and what’s new.

Mix a bit of speculation, rumor, said schedule from Apple and you get everyone (who cared) thinking that 4.3 would be released yesterday or at the end of the week, nonetheless today’s the day. The update is available to the iPhone 3Gs, iPhone 4 GSM Model, iPod Touch 3rd Gen and 4th Gen, iPad and iPad 2. The simple break down on what to expect from Apple’s new update are Airplay Enhancements, Safari Performance, iTunes Home Sharing, iPad Side Switch and Personal Hotspot for iPhone 4. These are the main updates from Apples website. Let’s take a closer look at the details of these as well as the not so notable.

Apple AirPlay will now give compatible iPhone, iPad and iPods the ability to stream its multimedia content to an HDTV through Apple TV. AirPlay can also be implemented into non Apple apps, giving these applications the HDTV care that many developers and consumers have been dreaming of.

iTunes Home Sharing

iTunes Home Sharing seems like AirPlay in reverse, except no apps are needed. If you have content on you Mac or PC desktop, be it Music, videos, Podcasts or even audio books you can now have it seamlessly on your iPhone, iPad or iPod over a shared Wi-Fi connection. This will require that your iTunes is updated to at least version 10.2.

Personal HotSpot iPhone 4

This is one I know many of you iPhone users have been waiting for. Apple has included the nessecicary software to turn your iPhone 4 into a personal hot spot. You can use your phones data signal to connect up to 5 devices. Details of this say that you can connect 3 devices via Wi-Fi, 3 devices via Bluetooth and yet another via USB. If my calculations are correct that would mean you can connect up to 7 devices, one being tethered via a USB cable. Either way I’m sure connecting 7 devices to cellular data wouldn’t be worth a darn anyway. But nonetheless, Hotspot on the iPhone is officially here.

Safari Performance Update

Just in case you were unaware, that little compass you use to get your daily dose of interwebs is called Safari. One of the best web browsers around just got a bit better. Safari has been updated to use Nitro JavaScript, which to regular people like you and me it means it’s fast and faster is surely better right! Let us know if you see any difference in your frequently visited sites.

iPad’s Side Switch

Awhile back Apple thought they had a good idea turning the orientation lock on the iPad into a mute switch (right above the volume rockers).  After the iPad populous shared their minds about the switch it seemed that Apple listened. You can now set the switch above the volume rocker to do which ever you prefer. A sure win-win for Apple and its customers alike, thanks Apple.

Those are the key features that Apple is pushing with this new update. Other updates from Apples site are as follows.
